Invergordon Lifeboat Station tour
Our Visit Team is made up of Volunteers, who look forward to welcoming you to Invergordon RNLI station. If for any reason you are unable to attend on the day of your visit, the Volunteers ask if you could please let them know, as this will allow them to change their plans too.
Each tour lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. You will be shown around the station, including a visit to our Shannon Class Lifeboat 13-37, the Agnes AP Barr. You will hear about the technology used to build her, as well as her status as the 1st RNLI launch a memory lifeboat, the foundation of the RNLI and what it does today.
The format and content of the tour may vary, dependant on the tide and weather conditions in the local area. Whilst we will endeavour to provide access to the boat, this will only be undertaken when weather and operational conditions permit and it is safe to do so.
Our lifeboat is berthed afloat on a pontoon in the West harbour, the stability of the pontoon can be affected by a number of factors including the movement of vessels, wave profile, winds etc and as such visitors are required to wear flat soled footwear. As part of the tour will be outside you need to wear clothes suitable to cope with the weather conditions and for those visitors who are susceptible to motion sickness we would encourage you to take appropriate precautions before your visit, to enable you to enjoy the tour. Dependant on working requirements, tide and weather access to the pontoon can be challenging, especially so for those with mobility issues, in some circumstances it may not be considered safe or appropriate to access the pontoon, in this case the Visit team volunteer will consider how best to facilitate your tour.
For more information on access, please email Invergordonvisits@rnli.org.uk .
Children must be supervised at all times by an accompanying adult during the visit. Following the tour you can take away some information on the Shannon Class and should you wish there is a selection of souvenirs available to purchase.
As our team are volunteers, who kindly give up their time to offer these tours, we would ask should your plans change and you are unable to attend, please could you let us know by cancelling your tickets on Eventbrite or contacting us at invergordonvisits@rnli.org.uk
As the station is operational, should the lifeboat be called out, or the station facilities are required for an emergency, we reserve the right to cancel the visit if necessary, for the safety of visitors and station volunteers.
